ELIE SAAB is teaming up with London College of Fashion to create a new fashion degree: Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design in collaboration with Elie Saab, at the Lebanese American University, which has campuses in Beirut and Byblos. The degree is the result of a joint effort between the three parties to bring world-class fashion design to Lebanon.
"The vision behind LAU's fashion design program was to offer the region's students an education of the highest possible international standards without having to travel too far from home," said Saab - who is honorary chairman of the programme and is still based in Lebanon. "I am pleased with the agreement, which is a major step toward creating a regional hub for talented designers."
The programme aims to offer a curriculum that is "both relevant to Arab culture and international in scope". The first year of the course will commence next September and will be overseen by LCF, which will supply "curriculum consultancy and quality assurance services to LAU".
"We are pleased to be partnering with LAU as their strong ethos for academic achievement mirrors that of LCF," LCF's Professor Frances Corner said during the event. "Developing international relationships such as this is vital to LCF as we look to develop our own understanding of the global fashion market as well as share our own expertise with our partners."
